Rolling Grille Repair in Jeddo

We fix rolling grilles that bind in the guides, drop too fast, won't lock or have bent links from a forklift or cart. We tell you what broke, why it broke and what each option costs to fix. Then you decide.

What a rolling grille needs to keep working

A rolling grille is an open curtain of steel or aluminum links that coils onto a spring barrel above the opening. It lets air and light through while keeping the space locked. You see them on storefronts, pharmacy counters, interior cage areas and dock openings that need airflow but not open access.

Most grille trouble comes from a few places. The spring loses tension, the guides get bent or packed with grit, the bottom bar takes a hit, or the motor and limits drift out of adjustment. Road salt and freeze-thaw cycles through a northeast Pennsylvania winter speed up rust on steel links and guide channels.

We look at the whole grille, not just the part that made noise. That way the fix lasts and you are not calling back a month later for the next weak spot.

What our grille work covers

Spring tension and barrel

We check and adjust spring tension so the grille stays put halfway open and does not slam shut. If a spring is broken or fatigued, we replace it and balance the curtain.

Guides and bottom bar

Bent guides are the most common reason a grille binds or jumps its track. We straighten or replace guide sections, clean out debris and repair or replace a damaged bottom bar.

Curtain links and rods

Damaged links and rods get replaced in sections where we can. If too much of the curtain is bent or rusted through, we tell you plainly that a new curtain makes more sense.

Locks and hardware

We repair or replace slide bolts, cylinder locks and bottom bar locks so the grille closes and secures the way it should.

Motor operators

On motorized grilles we test the operator, set the open and close limits and check the controls. We can also add a motor to a manual grille that has become a chore to lift.

New grille installation

When repair no longer pays, we measure, spec and install a replacement. For larger projects, our loading dock equipment installation page covers how we plan the work.

Signs your rolling grille needs work

  • It catches or jerks on the way

When the curtain hangs up partway, a guide is usually bent or a link is dragging. Pushing it harder can pull links apart.

  • It won't stay up or comes down by itself

A curtain that drops on its own or lifts far heavier than before has lost spring tension or a broken spring. Anyone underneath it is at risk.

  • The lock misses its mark

If the bolt no longer meets its hole, the curtain may have stretched, the bottom bar may be bent or the guides may have moved.

  • Rust spots or broken links

Heavy-salt winters leave rust low in the guides and on the bottom links. Ignored, it keeps spreading and the curtain gets weaker.

  • Grinding noise or a sluggish motor

A new sound or a slow operator often means worn bearings in the barrel, or a motor straining against a curtain that is out of balance.

How a grille repair visit goes

  1. 1

Start by telling us what's wrong

Let us know how the grille is acting, about how big it is and whether you lift it by hand or with a motor. With that, we can load the right parts before we head out.

  2. 2

We check every part of it

We cycle the grille open and closed and look at the spring tension, guides, links, locks and operator. Then we walk you through what turned up.

  3. 3

    You hear it plainly

We tell you what caused the trouble, what the repair involves and whether a new grille deserves a look. The price comes before any work does.

  4. 4

    Repair, then a test run

After the repair we run the grille up and down a few times and make sure it locks. We tidy up and fit the work around your hours when we can, so the opening stays in use.

What moves the price of grille repair

No two grille jobs cost the same, so we price after we see it. These are the main things that change the number. We walk you through each one before any work starts.

Size and weight of the curtain
Wide or tall grilles carry more spring load and need more parts. Big curtains can also need two people and a lift.
Material
Aluminum, galvanized steel and stainless parts are priced differently. Matching an older curtain can take a special order.
What failed and how far it spread
One bent guide is a small job. A broken spring plus damaged links plus a bent bottom bar adds up fast.
Manual or motorized
Motor repairs, new controls or adding an operator to a manual grille all add to the cost.
Mounting and access
Crumbling masonry, limited headroom or a grille behind racking or a counter can add time and materials.

Rolling grille questions

Something not covered here? (570) 535-3680

Is it worth repairing my old grille or should I replace it?

If the barrel, most of the curtain and the guides are sound, repair is usually the better buy. If the curtain is rusted through in many places or parts are no longer made, replacement often costs less over time. We tell you which way we would go and why.

Can you fix just a few bent links?

Often, yes. Many curtains allow sections of links and rods to be swapped out. If the damage runs across too much of the curtain, we will say so instead of patching it.

Why does my grille fall when I let go?

The springs have lost tension or one has broken. Do not keep using it that way, since a falling curtain can hurt someone. We can re-tension or replace the spring and balance the grille.

Can you add a motor to a manual grille?

In most cases, yes, as long as the curtain and barrel are in good shape. We check the balance first, because a motor on a badly balanced grille wears out early.

Do you service the other doors at our facility too?

Yes. We also work on overhead doors and high speed doors, and we can add grilles to a loading dock preventative maintenance plan so problems get caught early.
